Google G1 debut

T-Mobile's Google G1 Launch

Google has now joined in on the “iPhone Killer” bandwagon, and the world of smartphones. T-mobile’s New York Store launched the welcome of the new Google G1 Android smartphone today.

The phone retail for $180 with a 2 yr. contract, and $400 with no service agreement.

This is actually the first time hearing about this personally. I hadn’t any idea that Google was in the works of realeasing it’s own version of the “iPhone Killer”. I work just one block away from a T-Mobile store and have seen poster ads of the phone, but had no idea this was it.

I’m not quite sure what features and functionality this phone has, but here are the PROS and CONS according to PC Magazine and their full review.

PROS
  • First Google Android phone
  • Connects to Google services
  • Very good Web browser (Not surprising to hear this. It is Google after all.)
  • Highly configurable
  • Solid call quality
  • CONS
  • Poor music and video options
  • Subpar document support
  • No Flash support in browser
  • No Microsoft Exchange e-mail connectivity (Not worth purchasing if it’s not enterprise friendly to those in corporate America).
  • No Bluetooth connectivity
  • Nonstandard headphone jack
  • The phone’s interface is pretty clean and sleek, but it doesn’t appeal to me much. I also doubt it comes close to being able to call it as the “iPhone Killer” on the T-Mobile’s platform though. I’m not a fan of T-Mobile’s service, so it’s very unlikely that I would be interested in purchasing this phone. I will still be looking forward to the new BlackBerry Storm on the VZW network
